Who we are
We're neighbors on and around Lafayette, Sterling, Elm, Norwood, Grant, and Penn Streets (the group was started by Alex at the end of Sterling). We all live here, care about our community, and want to be aware of any changes to it. While most information is public, tracking every plan, hearing, and agenda is a lot of work, and we kept finding out about things later than we would've liked. We figured other people had the same problem, so we started this to keep everyone in the loop. You can reach us at yournewtownneighbors@gmail.com.
What this is for
Our community should know when something important is happening while there's still time to speak up. This group exists so we all have the information to voice support, voice opposition, or just stay informed.
We care about what gets built here. Some development improves Newtown. Other projects can dramatically affect our neighborhood with increased traffic, loss of open space, greater density, or changes to the character of residential streets. We think those projects deserve input from the residents affected.
We are focused primarily on the neighborhood in Newtown known as Taylor Heights, the surrounding areas like Newtown Gate, and nearby streets like Lafayette, Elm, Penn, Norwood, Grant, S Lincoln, Centre, Taylor, and Sterling.
What to expect
You'll get a text when
- A nearby project is submitted
- A hearing for those projects is approaching
- A vote is coming and showing up matters
You won't get a text about
- Lost pets or the fox who lives around here
- Anything for sale
- Development that doesn't affect our community
How often: typically a few texts a month. Some months, none.
Signing up does not mean you support or oppose any project. It just means you'd like to know what's going on.
Texts are all sent individually, so nobody sees anyone else's number. You can however reply back to us directly with questions or information about things we should track.

Where the meetings are
Most current proposals are located in Newtown Township, so they're reviewed during meetings at the Municipal Building, 100 Municipal Drive. You can see what's coming up on the township calendar, and Planning Commission, Zoning Board, and Board of Supervisors agendas are posted a few days before meetings. Public comment is allowed at all meetings and via email.
The Planning Commission meets the first and third Tuesday of each month at 7:30 p.m. in the Public Meeting Room, 100 Municipal Drive. The Nov. 3 meeting is canceled for Election Day.
Newtown Borough is just as affected, as most of our streets have both township and borough residents. Borough residents can attend township meetings and share feedback with borough officials as well.
